Poppy Posies: A Week of Flower Wisdom, Day 3

Welcome to Day 3!

A little quote to start:

I sing the Poppy! The frail snowy weed! The flower of Mercy! that within its heart Doth keep "a drop serene" for human need, A drowsy balm for every bitter smart. For happy hours the Rose will idly blow-- The Poppy hath a charm for pain and woe. ~ Mary A. Barr, White Poppies

And on to our regularly scheduled wisdom:

My take on the poppy field, iPhone

No one has the same lens on the world you do. Your unique view is needed. It's the whole of all the different flowers blooming that makes the whole more beautiful.

We sometimes forget in the ending of something (which can sometimes be messy and ugly and painful) that we are making way for new seeds of possibility to take root. Trust in the cycle of life. Know that after every bloom has ended, the seeds of new blooms can emerge.

Tell me, what are the flowers saying to you?

What is all this poppycock about? you ask.

Poppy Posies is a spontaneously planned week of sharing the wisdom of flowers. First post here.

More coming tomorrow.

P.S. I am traveling to Ohio today to pick up our daughter from her 10-day big fun extravaganza with her grammy and auntie. So looking forward to seeing her. I've so enjoyed this freedom, but am ready to have her back home. I have posts lined up for next two days, though, so the flowering will go on. Have a wonderful 4th everyone! Much love, Shannon

Poppy Posies: A Week of Flower Wisdom, Day 2

Welcome to Day 2 of Poppy Posies, offering your daily RDA of Flower Wisdom!

For your first course, a quote:

That we find a crystal or a poppy beautiful means that we are less alone, that we are more deeply inserted into existence than the course of a single life would lead us to believe. ~ John Berger

And now for a few words from this week's sponsor, Lady Poppy…

It sometimes requires a gentle touch and close listening to hear and notice another's beautiful spirit.

Keep striving and reaching upward. Go for the sky. Touch the sun. Bloom big.

It is your sacred center that is your most beautiful part (and it truly is breathtaking). Each one of our "centers" is unique, precious and a gift.

Poppy Posies: A Week of Flower Wisdom, Day 1

Just one part of this stunning field of poppies

Drum roll, please…

I hereby announce the first theme week here at the Inspired Writer blog:

Poppy Posies: A Week of Flower Wisdom

SFX: Rousing applause and fanfare.

But first a little background.

On Friday, my friend Julie's mom, Ruth, told us we had to go see the field of poppies.

It was a sight to behold, she said. All along the fencerow of a horse farm subdivision near our houses, some 500 feet in all, were poppies.

Julie went on Saturday and captured some lovely photographs. She was so enthused she called me and insisted I go, too.

So this evening I did.

I felt like Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, under the spell of these poppies.

(maybe that's why I've been so dreamy this summer — all that poppy dust floating in the air!)

As I was studying the, oh, 160 photos I took. They seemed to speak to me with wise messages.

Brief, but bold and poignant.

So I have decided to honor these sage flowers with a week's worth of wisdom-sharing.

The model is simple: one to three photos and the bits of wisdom they want to share each day.

Wisdom, of course, is best shared in small digestable doses.

Too much poppytalk makes you fall asleep.

Or, put another way:

Truth, like the juice of the poppy, in small quantities, calms men; in larger, heats and irritates them, and is attended by fatal consequences in excess. ~ Walter Savage Landor

Anyway, short works for me this week.

I'm still feeling pretty all midsummer's dreamy and I'm heading out of town on Wednesday to pick up our daughter from Ohio.

So, I offer you the world premier installment of Poppy Posies with these:

There is enough room for everyone to bloom in the garden of life. The more blooming flowers, the more beautiful our world is.

When you are in the process of blooming big in your life, it helps to surround yourself with other flowers who want to bloom big, too.

When you are growing and birthing your blooming big dream, it's okay to be protective of your seedling at first. Heartfelt dreams sometimes need fierce protection so they can fully take root.

More Poppy Posies to come tomorrow!! Hope you enjoy! Much love, Shannon
